Last updated September 18, 2026. Orris is the Windows dictation app at orrisvoice.com. This page is how we handle what you type with your voice.

What Orris is

Orris is a desktop app. You hold a chord, speak, and the app inserts text into the field that was focused. This website sells memberships and hosts the download.

Dictation audio

By default, speech is transcribed on your computer with a local Whisper model. The WAV is written to a temp file for that take and deleted afterward. We do not operate a cloud speech server for the default path.

If you paste an xAI API key into Settings, some transcription, translation, and rewrite requests go to xAI under that key. That is optional and off until you add a key. xAI’s own terms then apply to those requests.

History, dictionary, and snippets stay on your PC under your Windows profile. If OneDrive is available, dictionary and snippets can copy to a folder named Orris in OneDrive so they follow you to another machine. Turn that off by not using OneDrive, or by deleting that folder.

Accounts on this site

Create-account stores your name, email, a salted password hash, and membership flag in this browser’s local storage. It is not a hosted user database. Clearing site data signs you out. The Windows app stores the member email in its own settings file so the daily cap can lift.

Do not reuse an important password here. Treat the site account as a membership handshake with the app, not a password vault.

Payments

Membership is billed by Stripe. We never see your full card number. Stripe’s privacy policy covers the charge. After you pay, we record that the email you used is a member so the app can unlock unlimited listening.

Support mail

If you write us through the support form, Netlify delivers the message. We use it to reply and then keep it only as long as the issue is open.

Logs

The app writes a local log (timing, language, errors) next to its settings so we can debug a machine you already own. It does not upload that log.

Cookies and analytics

This site does not set advertising cookies and does not load a third-party analytics pixel. Stripe and Netlify may set cookies they need to take payment or host the form.

Your choices

• Uninstall the app and delete %AppData%\VoiceType to remove local history, settings, and logs.
• Sign out on the website and clear this site’s data in your browser.
• Cancel membership in Stripe. Access stays through the paid period.
• Don’t add an xAI key if you want dictation to stay on-device.
